| Explain the treasure and describe any special features that it has. |
My treasure is a tiny pair of tennis shoes. They are size three, and they are seven years old. They used to be dark blue, but now they are a faded blue color. They have scuff marks on the toes, and one shoe has a missing lace.

| Explain
where the treasure came from. Why is it precious to you? |
Although these look like an old pair of shoes that should be in the trash, they are very important to me. They were my first pair of tennis shoes! My mom bought them for me when I was just eighteen months old. I can't believe that they used to fit me!
| What things could damage it, and how could this be prevented? | Because these tennis shoes are so old, I am very careful with them. The fabric is thin, and it could tear easily. The sun could fade them even more. The soles are made from rubber, which can rot. | ||||
| What is the best way to keep your treasure safe? | I
keep my tennis shoes in a box on a shelf in my closet. It's dry there and
away from the light, and it's too high for my little brother to reach. I
always tie down the lid of the box with string, just in case someone knocks
it over. I try not to touch my tennis shoes too much. If I take them out
of the box, I hold them by the soles, where they're the strongest. I never
touch or pull the lace. Luckily, they're too small to fit me anymore, so
I don't have to worry about wanting to wear them! One time, my friend was dressing up his bear. He wanted to use my tennis shoes, but I wouldn't let him. I want them to last forever. |

| Explain
what the treasure will mean to people in the future. What will it tell them? What will they learn? |
In the future, my treasure will show what baby tennis shoes used to look like. People will be able to look at their design and how they were made. Maybe one day, my grandchildren will look at them. Then they'll be able to see how much my feet have grown!
