Double Takes Back
A Safe Run

A fun run is a great way for people to exercise and enjoy themselves. If you want to organize a fun run, it's important that everyone is safe. This includes the runners and the people watching.

The Run
To begin with, you'll need to spend plenty of time planning. It's a good idea to check that the route isn't too long or difficult. Remember that some runners will be in better shape than others. Before you choose the route, run or walk around it first.

If your fun run is taking place on city streets, you will have to be extra careful. Don't use streets that have a lot of traffic as they could be dangerous. Make a map of the route you choose. Mark the route clearly on the map so that the runners know which way to go. Give a copy of the map to the competitors as well as information about the date, time, and rules for the run.

Marshals
It's a good idea to have marshals for your run. A marshal's job is to make sure that the run goes smoothly and safely. They can answer the runners' questions and help them to stay on the right route. Figure out how many marshals you'll need. You should have one on every corner and intersection along the route. Marshals could wear badges or caps that are the same color so the runners can recognize them. Marshal showing runner which way to go.

For the Runners
Each runner will need a race number that can be pinned onto their T-shirt so the marshals can recognize them. They will also need suitable clothes and running shoes to keep them comfortable and to prevent any injuries.

Don't forget to provide water for the runners during and at the end of the race so they don't get dehydrated. You can set up tables along the route and marshals can give out water in plastic cups.

Finally, you will need a good first-aid kit. If runners trip and fall, there may be cuts or bruises. Make sure that there are adults around who know first aid.

If you have planned carefully, your fun run will be safe and enjoyable for everyone.
