You’re producing the class play, and it’s only four weeks until opening night. You still haven’t selected your backstage team. Luckily, your classmates have all kinds of skills. The only trouble is … who’s the best person for each job?

The person in charge of the set helps to create the look and feel of the play. He or she designs and helps to make the backdrops and decides what furniture and props are needed onstage.

The stage manager has to ensure that everything runs smoothly on the night. Before the play begins, he or she checks that the furniture and props are in the correct place onstage. The stage manager also organizes the actors so that they’re ready to go onstage at the right times.

The publicity person’s role is to promote the play so that an audience turns up for each performance. He or she designs and helps to make posters that advertise when and where the play will be, then decides where the posters should be displayed. The publicity person also organizes the printing and selling of the tickets.

This person decides what each actor will wear, then he or she helps to find or make the clothes. On the night, the wardrobe manager makes sure that each actor has their costume and is wearing it correctly. After each performance, the wardrobe manager collects, checks, and hangs the clothes so that they’re ready for the next night.
