The famous scientist Albert Einstein was once asked, “What would you do if you had to save the world and had one hour to do it?” Einstein replied, “I’d spend the first fifty-five minutes thinking about the problem and the last five minutes thinking of a solution.” |

Luckily, I don’t have to save the world, but I do have an annoying problem. I’ll follow Einstein’s example by thinking about the problem first. |

Whenever I put my socks into the laundry, they get split up! I can only find one sock out of a pair, so I have to wear odd socks to school. That just looks weird. |

A pair of socks is actually two separate things, not one. |

Now that I’ve thought about the problem, I need a brilliant idea. (It’s not as easy as it sounds!) |

Later that day, I see a class of kindergarten students joining hands in pairs before they cross the road. They keep a firm grip on each other, and no one gets left behind. I wonder – what if my socks gripped on to each other? |

As I’m walking, I notice that the straps on my shoes are held down by strips of Velcro. If Velcro is strong enough to hold a shoe together, it must be strong enough to hold a pair of socks together. |

Perfect! I’ll stick pieces of Velcro on to every pair of socks I own. Then I’ll stick the socks together before they're washed. Then they won’t come apart. The strips of Velcro might look a bit odd, but not as odd as odd socks. |

Who knows – I might even start a fashion trend … |
