Hey Ria!

How are the slopes? Wish I could go skiing instead of hanging out here. I’m staying at Aunt’s. She runs a hotel for cats. I’ve got nothing against cats, but when there’s only wire netting between fifty cats and me, I get edgy. Aunt Mena always sends me out to buy supplies for them. Today she lent me her digital organizer to take shopping. It’s tiny – about the size of your little sister’s shoe! It’s amazing. You can surf the Internet on it. I almost missed my stop because I started reading a blog.

I’d just stepped off the bus when I got a text message from Aunt. “Please buy light bulbs too. Gizmo knocked over three lamps.”

The pet store was chaos. I looked at the shopping list Aunt had made on her organizer and tried to figure out where I’d find flea medicine, special albino cat food, and a mirror for Bob the budgie. I got lost in a maze of squeaky toys before I had a brainwave. I logged onto the Internet and tapped into a search engine. If I looked at an image of each item, maybe I’d find it quickly in the store.

Search engines are great at finding everything you might want, but never the thing you actually need. Twenty minutes later, I was empty-handed. A store clerk asked if she could help. She rushed around, quick as a terrier, and found everything in seconds. My face went the color of the parrot in the window.

I’d just got back to Aunt’s when I remembered the light bulbs. (To be honest, I was glad to have an excuse to go out again.)

I went to the grocery store for the light bulbs, then texted Briar to see if she wanted to meet at the skatepark. I waited ten minutes – a lifetime in “text time!” – with no reply. Then who should I see but Briar wandering past with her headphones on, singing loudly. I’d forgotten that she listens to music at full blast and never has her cellphone on vibrate. We were going to take the bus together, but Briar wanted to walk. I used Aunt’s organizer to check the weather forecast. It said sunny, so we walked. Back at the cat hotel, the cats put on a show of good behavior for Briar – as if they’re like that all the time …

Can’t wait to hear about your adventures.

Jaime
